The group exhibition The Table between the Beds opens a working hypothesis on the habitation and sharing of the constructed world, as a table is between those who sit around it. As a shared space, the constructed table brings us together and at the same time prevents us from “falling over each other” [Hannah Arendt, “Human Condition”]. In contrast, the bed is individual, or rather private, and supports a return to the things of the self.
From this thinking emerge key functions around the idea of collaboration and maintenance of the self that are explored in the exhibition as versions of the world of things. By choosing for the project the space of the public university, an atrium, roofless and enclosed within the urban fabric, we attempt tangible versions of destabilisation of the constructed world. It is here, moreover, in the field of public education, that multiple antagonisms and claims are currently taking shape.
The table between beds temporarily fulfils the demand for a collective defence of the conditions that constitute common life.
