DOCUMENTS OF BREATHING

“No one should brave the underworld alone.”

The Documents of Breathing are a collection of mnemosyne fragments – archival traces, family relics, historical documents – which are found and structured in an almost associative way, while expressing a “nostalgia for returning to the most archaic place of absolute commencement”.

One of the references for the work is the Egyptian Bible of the Dead: a manual with instructions for the passage of the dead into the Underworld. The funerary texts are a collection of smaller texts, found in burial chambers: spells and magical invocations to the gods for the journey to the Egyptian Duat (Kingdom of the Dead). They are sometimes called “Breathing Permits”, where the breath symbolizes what the deceased desires or needs to have in the afterlife.

Thus, the Documents of Breathing began from the idea of a book, and are classified into ten incomplete chapters: The Last Version, Chronos, Dream City, Denkraum, Logos, Pathos, Sacred & Profane, Pothos, Θάνατος, The Afterlife.
