Save Ios Association, the citizens group for the protection of the environment, traditional Aegean character and monuments of Ios island, presents the show entitled Micro-stories of a Mutable Landscape, curated by Dimitris Foutris, from August 13 to September 13, 2022, in the context of Ios Art Residency #1.
Three visual artists, Dimitra Kondylatou, Orestis Mavroudis and Fotini Palpana, were hosted in April 2022 in Ios, Cyclades, they got to know the island, exchanged views with its inhabitants and through on-site research they produced new works inspired by the place.
The exhibition places the concept of nature at the epicenter, aiming to explore its interaction with everyday culture. That is, to map elements of the fragility of the Cycladic landscape in the light of the different levels of history (or stories) of the island, whether these relate to the field of human relations – memories, events and emotions – or the direct identification of the relationship of the inhabitant with the landscape. It seeks -ultimately- to raise awareness towards the protection of the environment from the effects of indiscriminate human intervention in it.
