MICHAEL LANDY | BREAKING NEWS – ATHENS

NEON is delighted to announce Michael Landy’s first exhibition in Greece, BREAKING NEWS – ATHENS. This collaborative exhibition maps the current feelings and experiences of people in the nation’s capital.

NEON and Michael Landy invite members of the public to send in images that capture contemporary Athens and its social and political landscape – images reflecting the current state of our society such as news headlines, text messages, aphorisms, symbols, logos, slogans and graffiti.

I’m trying to open up a [kind of] bridge between me and the Greek public and asking them about how they feel. What is interesting for me is that I don’t know what I’m going to get, that is the interest, it can come from the left, the right, it can be social, it can be political. It is an avenue of communication with everybody really and I don’t want to be presumptuous about what we are going to get. In some respects, we are like a copy center.

The exhibition is an installation in progress. During the next few months, Michael will select images from those submitted and then recreate them in blue and white drawings that are pinned directly on the walls of Diplarios School, at the heart of Athens.
