 Press Release

The World War II cave shelter in Adamas, was built under the German Command. It has been 75 years already. The shelter has seen different uses ever since. The last few years has been operating as a place hosting modern art.

How could we reconsider the space in 2016? What relates us to the German Occupation? How are lies and the truth related to the narration of a story? How will we manage to escape from the museum – like attitude towards History and talk about the individual, the other and the world in the bounds of Here and Now?

We have employed a kind of game: We picked a date and the geographic coordinates the shelter as a title for the project. Locals have been asked to recall an incident about seeking shelter, a place to hide.Their stories have been recorded, they have been used as a “Hypertext” for the 28 artists who participate in the project. They were inspired by them and handled them in their own artistic way. This is how the installations and performances were brought about and are being hosted in the shelter these days.

As a result the shelter will host secret, unconfessed stories and will provide a lending ear to the visitors who wish to whisper   their secret in the depths of this cave. They can even put down a note in the humidity. A game of salvation from the haunting Past. A seek and hide with the Present. An ambitious approach to our Future. With the support of NEON.
