/next stop/ is a research-based artistic project by the ANOMIA collective that reconstructs the stories embedded in the names of bus stops through the digital platform epomenistasi.com.

The project emerged from an ordinary daily routine – traveling by public transport and  a simple question: where do the names of bus stops come from? These are names we pronounce almost unconsciously, passing them by in haste, yet they often preserve forgotten histories, local memories, and traces of the city’s past. Following these traces, ANOMIA embarked on a form of urban excavation that reveals the layered temporalities of the city as well as the meanings people once attached to these places.

Sound recordings, visual material, and textual fragments from the city’s past and present are assembled within an original open-access digital platform created specifically for the project. The platform recontextualises archival material, personal testimonies, and field notes through the artistic reinterpretations of six contemporary artists.

The bus stops Sonia, Kolossaion, Lyssiatreio, Averof / IKA, Alysida, and Eloulou served as the project’s sites of archival and on-location research. The process gave rise to six original essays alongside six artistic works that do not seek to illustrate the research, but rather to enter into dialogue with it, offering alternative readings of the city’s narratives. The participating artists are Giorgos Athanasiou, Stratis Vogiatzis, Dionysis Kavallieratos, Chara Kotsali, S.t.m.C, and the ANOMIA collective. The digital platform was designed by Sofia Rozaki.

At its core, /next stop/ explores how contemporary art can become embedded in the rhythms of everyday life and the experience of public space. Conceived as an evolving, open-access platform, it brings together artistic practice, historical research, and lived urban experience while remaining open to future contributions. Visitors are invited to enrich this growing collective archive by sharing their own documents, photographs, and personal stories, allowing the project to continue evolving through the memories and experiences of its users.

Supported by NEON through its annual Grants Scheme.
