PHĒNO presents Unlearning Noise, an attempt to unlearn and reinterpret the phenomenon of urban noise through a series of exhibitions and events, which unfold in three “acts”.

Each act includes an art installation (Maria Andrikopoulou, Eleanna Balesi, Nikos Kostopoulos) and a live event (Viki Zioga, Eva Matsigkou, Vasilis Liolios & Yannis Tsirikoglou), through which the participating artists invite the audience to decode the noise of the city and reevaluate its meaning and potential. The first act, Tracing Urban Ecologies, traces noises of the urban landscape and encourages us to consider it not just as a physical space but as a living entity shaped by our perception. The act Resonating Transformations challenges us to look and listen deeper, to reassess the ” superfluous” and to identify the transformative potential of noise. Finally, in the third act Dissonant Connections we are invited to contemplate whether and how human relationships form (and are formed by) urban noise on a daily basis.

Altogether, the art exhibitions, workshops and sound performance presented in the context of Unlearning Noise compose an invitation to slow down, listen and through noise reflect on our presence and participation in public space, our relationships with those around us and with the natural environment.

Unlearning Noise is supported by NEON through its annual Grants Programme.
