Every year NEON will be commissioning an artist to create a new work for temporary display in a public space. For 2014, NEON is collaborating with Greek artist Aemilia Papaphilippou whose work, Chess Continuum explores the relationship between contemporary artistic creation and Classical civilization. Presented in the historic urban centre of Athens, where ancient meets modern, the exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to explore their perceptions of the passing of time in relation to the creative process.
“Chess Continuum provides a framework in which to examine notions of what ‘public’ is in terms of the interdefinition, synergy, interlacing and forced synthesis of complementary opposites. It is in the midst of this endless game that the course of humankind unfolds” Aemilia Papaphilippou
