Choreographers Yiota Peklari and Vassia Zorbali explore the embodiment of time through materiality – organic and inorganic – towards the direction of a multisensory accessible artistic work.
Within a space flooded with polymorphic formulations of balloons, the performers create kinetic and sonic rarefactions and densifications, mapping out its dimensions. The performativity of the work brings to the surface a very interesting contrast: the formulations, like dancing butoh entities, freeze time, making visible the air that fills the space and the gaps between bodies. They thus interrupt the continuous uncontrollable alternation of events in the past- present -future, necessary for time’s understanding, while the sound composition celebrates periodicity and contemporaneity. In this fluid performative space, a constantly shifting human resonator acting in a condition of pre-established harmony, synchronizes and harmonizes, constantly reminding the unpredictable and ephemeral.
The choreographic research balances between the visual and the acoustic, addressing sighted, non-sighted, hearing and non-hearing individuals in parallel. Delving into an interdisciplinary performative practice, the kinetic performance explores the corporeality of sound, which manages to resonate both ears and eyes/gaze. The non-verbal vocabulary of b(l)alloon transforms audience participation into a universally perceivable experience, an artistic encounter-proposal that is not limited to conventional accessibility tools but discovers and cultivates innovative, alternative tools of inclusion.
Supported by NEON through its annual Grants Scheme.
