TALK | TRAUMA & CREATIVITY

On the occasion of the exhibition A THOUSAND DOORS, organised by NEON in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery, we invite you to the first series of discussions on the subject Trauma and Creativity. In discussion with Apostolos Doxiadis, author and Nikos Tzavaras, psychiatrist-psychoanalyst

It is a commonplace of cultural history that the creativity of many writers and artists is moulded by early emotional trauma. In this discussion, author Apostolos Doxiadis and psychoanalyst Nikos Tzavaras will discuss the traces of trauma in the finished work. Starting from Sigmund Freud’s essay, “Dostoevsky and Parricide”, the two speakers will attempt, by way of an example, to elucidate the role of trauma as a main shaping influence on the great Russian novelist’s works.

Thursday 8 May @ 19.00 | Museum of Cycladic Art | 4 Neophytou Douka, Athens
