 Press Release (in Greek) >

After Relic (2015), Titans (2017), and Elenit (2019), which toured continuously worldwide until 2023, Euripides Laskaridis now embarks on a new touring stage work titled Lapis Lazuli.

Able to conjure magic from the most diverse and ordinary materials, Laskaridis is the originator of a unique hybrid form of spectacle that seamlessly spans the realms of performance, dance, and visual arts. In Lapis Lazuli, he continues his ongoing exploration on the themes of transformation and ridicule while melding together elements of the grotesque, comedic, and terrifying.

Inspired by the mesmerizing blue semi-precious stone of the same name, renowned for its unpredictable behavior under pressure, Laskaridis seeks to create a captivating and enigmatic new world filled with intriguing dualities. The name of the stone itself, lapis lazuli (often interpreted as the “Stone from Heaven”), hints at an origin that is both earthly and celestial. It was this very duality inherent in the stone’s name that ignited the artist’s quest to meticulously weave on stage a tapestry of seemingly contradictory elements.

Lapis Lazuli is an international co-production involving Greece, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Finland, and Bulgaria. It premiered in Athens in April 2024 and has already embarked on an extensive worldwide tour.

Lapis Lazuli international tour is supported by NEON through its annual Grants Scheme.
