George Hadjimichalis. Works From 1966 To 2022 is a retrospective exhibition of the eminent Greek artist, George Hadjimichalis. The exhibition extends to all spaces of the Benaki Museum (Pireos 138) and is presented in two parts; Part I from September 21st to November 5th, 2023, and Part II from November 23rd, 2023 to January 14th, 2024.

The works exhibited document the artist’s journey through the adventure of painting these fifty-six years. The exhibition also includes works that will be shown for the first time.

George Hadjimichalis is one of the most important artists of his generation. His work is multilateral and often comprises large units. It explores memory, the significance of archives, and the relationship between the past and the contemporary visual arts’ reality. To create his work, he often employs several and diverse media, in addition to painting, such as video, photography, text, prints, etc. The two dimensional space of painting extends into the third dimension, and the spaces that result allow the viewer to encounter the image as it is shaped by the experience of life in the postmodern condition.

The exhibition George Hadjimichalis. Works From 1966 To 2022 is supported by NEON through its annual Grants Programme.
