Aigaleo City Project in collaboration with the architectural team AREA invite you at AIGALEO 639 on Sunday 14 December 2014. In the context of the Aigaleo City Project, AREA architectural team – consisting of Styliani Daouti, Giorgos Mitroulias and Michaeljohn Raftopoulos – was asked to submit an architectural proposal on a specific space of Aigaleo.

AREA creators chose a unique residential complex of the 20th century at the 639 block of Aigaleo. It consists of four three-story buildings which enclose a garden in the center. The initiative will take place at this garden with the participations of locals and neighbors.

It is an interactive project based on a maquette with different pieces/variations. Participants will create their proposal using imagination. The aim is to point out the characteristics of this urban typology and the activation of the common area through architecture.

Aigaleo City is the second Community Project for 2014. The Community Projects are a new NEON initiative for 2014, with two such projects to be funded annually. Their aim is to implement contemporary art programmes in Athenian neighbourhoods that rely on the participation of local inhabitants, groups and artists. These Community Projects will create lively pockets of artistic activity in the city, where artists will join forces with citizens to highlight issues that interest and concern their local communities.
